I’m tarantula-sitting this summer.
I’d share a picture, but am holding off either out of respect for the arachnophobes or out of respect for the tarantula’s privacy, you decide.
But I have to say, tarantulas are the lowest maintenance pets ever. They need their water refilled every 2-3 days. And appreciate being fed a cricket or mealworm about once a month, too.
It’s true they don’t do some of the usual pet things. Like return affection. Or move much at all, unless you’re giving them water or accidentally jostle their enclosure.
But they hang out being tarantulas. Surely this is enough.
Makes you wonder why more people don’t keep them, really.
My friend Kim raises tarantulas and she swears that some of them have been affectionate. Maybe this one is just shy of strangers. 🙂
It could be. Or maybe I’m just shy of interacting much, not having much sense yet of what’s appreciated and what’s intrusive in the spider world. 🙂
Bonus fact: this is a rescue tarantula. It makes me happy, knowing there are people in the world whose thing is tarantula rescue.
