For a hilarious look at the neuroses authors are subject to, with sides of the dangers of google alerts and taking negative (or even not-100%-positive) reviews too seriously, I thoroughly enjoyed Meljean Brook’s Diary of an Author. Do read through to the end–for one thing, that’s where the happy ending is.
[spoiler] The part where the author googles her name and google responds, Your search did not match any documents. Did you mean, “Who is the WORST AUTHOR in the WORLD???” was worth the price of admission by itself, really–laughed and laughed when I reached that part. Because isn’t that what we all secretly fear? 🙂[/end spoiler]
After that, of course, there’s nothing left to do but run away and live in a cave …
