Editorial revision poll results

Many thanks to all who took part in the editorial revision poll.

The results are over here. (Poll left open for now in case anyone else wants to chime in.)

The results indicate that typically (for this sample group) YA/children’s books get two rounds of edits pre-copyediting, and typically adult books get one–but there’s also a lot of variation, and one to three-plus edits are far from unknown in either field. Not getting edited at all (aside from copyedits/proofreading) is not unknown, but is by far the least common response.

One of the bits of received wisdom I’m hearing more and more is that “editors don’t edit anymore.”

My take is that these results suggest that isn’t really true.
