What’s bouncing around my brain this morning

Reading papersky‘s “Off With the Faeries,” followed by shweta-narayan‘s “The Morning After” sets up interesting resonances in my brain.

The images in shweta-narayan‘s poem in particular make a compelling case (one of many possible cases) for why we even when we know better we mortals tend to ignore all that stories teach us about faerie and its inhabitants.

When a mortal goes off with a faerie lord or lady, as in stories they so often do, what do you think of: seduction on the part of the fair folk, willing escape on the part of the human, something in between–something entirely different?

What does it really mean, when an Other takes our hand and asks if we’ll step away from this world?
