Today I went out to get some irises from our yard to add to a store-bought bouquet, but found the last of the irises just past, wilted on their stems. So instead I gathered up a bouquet of daisies and other backyard grasses. Their stems were too small to fit in with the store flowers, so I put them in their own glass and set them down beside the other flowers.
And realized I like them, in all their wild weediness, better than the bright long-stemmed store bouquet.
A good Passover to those who celebrate, and a joyous spring to all.
