This is the third Valdemar story I’ve written–it’s always a fun world to play in. So I decided to make December’s story my first Valdemar story, “A Child’s Adventures,” written more than a decade ago now–a couple years after I moved from St. Louis to Tucson.
When I left St. Louis, the Mississippi River was flooding behind me, rising up among the branches of the trees and lapping at the steps of the Gateway Arch. So while this story is set in Valdemar, but I also had those Missouri floodwaters in mind as I wrote.
