I’ve incorporated my critique group’s notes on the current messy draft of the manuscript I’m working on, and there are several (where “several” = “many”) sections where my critiquers indicated that the prose was particularly rough.
The interesting thing I’m finding is–they’re all places where I skimped on the descriptive details, and on the emotions that go with them. There are other problems, too, of course–but that’s one constant. And the places they thought particularly strong–all have those details.
Interesting and useful to see, that.
