But not, apparently, today.

I was trying to come up with a playlist for TE, my current not-easy book-in-progress, because I drew much inspiration from my Bones of Faerie playlist. But the book is still much more in progress–writing more than revising–and so it’s hard to know what sort of soundtrack it would have, even inside my own brain, because I still don’t really know what the book is about, and won’t for another draft or two. I have some ideas, but I know they’re all going to change, and few things feel definitively like they belong. So I find I keep adding songs and deleting them again.
Interesting, that.
I noticed one other interesting thing: there are songs that tend to show up regularly in my music mixes, that I have to actively try not to include in nearly ever mix. (Richard Shindell, this means you.) But almost none of my always-relevant songs are even potential songs for this playlist. I find myself drawing upon a very different mix of music.
I’d like to believe this means the book, too, is drawing upon different textures and tones and themes than I’ve been drawing on. But maybe that’s stretching the meaning behind a playlist a bit thin.
