Dog counter, dog catcher, it’s all the same …

I am inordinately amused this afternoon to learn that the small town I spent a summer in two decades ago has, on it’s town staff, a dog enumerator. So, apparently, do a handful of other small towns.

Yes, I am procrastinating. Why do you ask?

But seriously, this raises all sorts of important questions. Like, who enumerates the cats? Or the llamas?

Okay, maybe the llamas are smart enough to enumerate themselves.

But cats can’t count for anything. Cat counting is like this: One, two, too many, hiss, scratch, yowl, run away, one, two …

There are no cat enumerators. How do they manage?
