Any incoherencies in this post should be blamed on last night’s flight delays

Spent the weekend at World Fantasy Convention in Austin, where the weekend was filled with many terrific conversations with folks both already-known and just-met. Which doesn’t make for much of a journal post, but it was lots of fun.

One thing I very much got a sense of this year–though of course I’ve known–is that much of the fantasy being published really is being published as either YA or romance. Which may explain why I’m pulling together a post-con shopping list even as we speak, because neither of those genres tend to be heavily represented in the average dealers room. On the other hand, getting a signed copy of The Last Unicorn made venturing into the dealer’s room worthwhile all by itself.

I went to more readings than usual this year, and enjoyed them. My Broad Universe reading of the opening chapter of Bones went well, too. (Many thanks to those who asked for more info about the book–once I have them, I’ll post the pub dates both here and on my web page.)

And hey, how many hotels are custom-designed to make one come to terms with one’s fear of heights? 🙂

Also, some of the trees in Texas produce really, really big acorns. I think the locals should keep an eye out for the giant squirrels that must be out there, somewhere, waiting to waylay unwary travellers.
