March/”Water’s Edge”

March’s story is “Water’s Edge.”

Whether this is the selkie story or the ghost story is left as an exercise for the reader. 🙂

When I was growing up, my grandparents had a summer house on eastern Long Island, right on Shinecock Bay. The house was always filled with sand; through its huge picture window I could see the water; and it was just a short run across the lawn (a stubby lawn that jabbed my bare feet, because I never wore shoes there) to the shore.

Water’s Edge” isn’t about me, and it isn’t about my grandparents either. But it is, just a little, about that house, and about what it’s like to grow up on the water, and to have a bit of sea salt in your blood.
