Seeing so many articles on and discussions of the winter holidays that focus entirely on gift giving is making me grumpy. As if that were the point of said holidays. As if giving and getting the right gifts were terribly important.

So, tell me–without mentioning presents–what your winter holiday of choice means to you.

For me, Hanukkah/Solstice are about: The promise of longer/brighter/better days. Shining lights in the dark, and gathering with friends and family to do so.

And if good company and good food are involved, too, so much the better.
