Camping on the coast

Back from a lovely four-day Girl Scout trip to Camp Surf, in San Diego. The group was entirely older girls (11-17), and everyone had a blast, sand-filled tents and all.

We camped right on the beach the first couple days, where thanks to a red tide we got to see the waves glow blue-green with algae at night, like northern lights on the water. Body boarding, surfing (I made it up onto my needs; the girls were standing by the end), and kayaking at the camp, then into the city for a baseball game (the Padres pretty much slaughtered our Diamondbacks) and hotel and showers.

The bus driver made himself very popular by being willing to blast the radio and let the girls choose the station.

Lots of good energy and new friendships being made. Everyone came off the bus at the end as much jazzed as exhausted–which may be a first.

A terrific trip. I love waking up to the sound of crashing waves.
