Spring doves

Just heard a “thump” at the window, and looked out to see a cloud of feathers, and a dove rather dazedly picking itself up from the ground.

Poor thing stumbled about a bit, then went still, not moving again until I opened the door–muttering “are you okay?” and having no idea what I could do if it wasn’t–then remembered how to fly, and fluttered off.

I’ve heard the same sort of thumping sound before, always assumed it was a random (indoor) cat bouncing off the windows. Guess not, at least not always.

ETA: And there’s a faintly dove-shaped pattern of feathers stuck to the window, too.
