Spring?

Well, not quite spring. But the desert is this close to bursting into full bloom. You can see it and feel it.

Damp air, clouds moving in and out, early orange and yellow flowers shouting from the yards, and green everywhere, unruly green weeds in all the gravel lawns and drives and at the edges of the streets. Things are ready to grow, and know that they have to grow fast, before the air turns hot and dry and everything goes to brown.

By April we’ll have our first 90 degree day; by May the ice will break (meaning will hit 100). The hot, dry June dragon’s breath will be here before we know it. Wildflowers are to the desert summer what fiery leaves are to the eastern winter.

But right now, it’s cool, and damp, and almost-spring.
