Don’t tell science fiction authors things that aren’t true …

… because they’ll set out to prove just how not-true they are.

This is old news by now, but I wanted to hang on to the link: a group of science fiction writers wrote a deliberately bad novel and sold it to PublishAmerica.

PublishAmerica withdrew it’s offer once the sting was revealed, but the novel can still be purchased from, with proceeds going to the SFWA emergency medical fund. (There are also PDF copies one can download online–no charge for those.)

Meanwhile, the rationalization and justification on the the PublishAmerica message board is kinda breathtaking and kinda heartbreaking.
