When did we become so impatient, as a nation, that we care more about not having to wait and be uncertain than about what actually happens? Am I the only person in the universe who cares more about seeing things done in a way that is just and right and fair than about instant results?
And no, I didn’t think Kerry was going to win Ohio. But I still saw no reason not to follow all the relevant procedures. Who decided election results needed to arrive instantly, lest the country be plunged into chaos?
I have a sinking feeling this also means–in the name of sacred closure–that few people will be willing, even at an appropriate point down the road, to dare to question the long lines and shortage of voting machines in Ohio, either. Or any other irregularities that come up that might cast suspicion upon our current president’s party.
And of course, in 2000 the Supreme Court decided the course of an entire election with the basic rationale of “we can’t wait any longer.”
Does this entire country have ADHD? What is wrong with us?
