A worthy local project

The Silver Award is the second-highest award in Girl Scouting; it’s earned by middle school students, who do all the work toward the award themselves.

For their Silver Award project, Chelsea and Cassy of Tucson’s Sahuaro Council are working to collect more than 3000 new children’s books, for all ages (picture books through YA), to donate to these agencies:

Our Town Family Center
Arizona Children’s Association
Tucson Center for Women and Children, Inc.
House of Neighborly Service
Casa del los Ninos
Ronald McDonald House

Their goal is to give each organization 500 new books.

They’re also looking for used books to give to the children’s wards of hopsitals throughout Tucson.

For those who are in Tucson, there’s a donation box now at the WaterMart on the Southwest corner of 22nd and Kolb; starting September 1 there’ll be one at the Sahuaro Girl Scout Council resource center at Boradway and Columbus as well. Or you can get the books to me, and I’ll pass them on; email me at janni@simner.com for details.

This is likely mostly of interest to locals, but if from out of town is interested, you can mail me books, too–again, send email for details.

The girls doing this aren’t in my troop, but in a nearby troop also in my Service Unit. They’re terrific kids who have already put a ton of work into their project, and I’d love to see them succeed!
