Shows what I know

I found some old notes on a project. It’s covered with notes about the story, carefully plotted and worked into proper three-act structure.

Off to the side, in smaller type, is a small note labeled “subplot,” with two items beneath it.

I’d forgotten about these notes–made at a workshop I attended years and years ago; I only dimly remember making them.

None of the main plot notes made it into my story, save in the earliest drafts.

But the subplot notes, written almost as if an afterthought? They’re both at he heart of the story I actually told.
