The scent of rain

This evening I smelled the distinct wet-dust smell (that’s really a wet-creosote smell) that comes before rain. I heard the windchimes whipping about in the way they do when a storm moves in. I stepped outside, and saw clouds scudding by overhead.

The only thing missing was, like, any actual water. The air was dry.

But all the other ingredients for an Arizona monsoon were there.
