Tasteful insects

Back when I was sampling chocolate-covered insects, it never occurred to me to wonder what the insects might be capable of tasting in turn. But now, apparently, someone has mapped an insect tongue, or the fruit fly equivalent thereof.

Apparently their “taste buds” are located at various locations on the outsides of their bodies. Apparently, also, they taste bitter tastes better than us.

I need to know these things.
