In the I Did Not Know That But Should Have department: The first carbon filament light bulb was not only invented by Thomas Edison, but also by Englishman Joseph Swan a year earlier. Apparently the two did some collaborating after that; also apparently, it was Edison who developed the power lines and such to support the invention.
Credit where credit is due, and all that.
And that was the last research factoid I needed to check out before I could get back to actual writing. For now, at least.
