As part of the revision process on the current book, I’m researching Connecticut history, and keep coming upon interesting random bits of information.
Like, that Connecticut has an official state heroine.
And, where the tree on the Connecticut quarter actually comes from.
And that not only Nathan Hale (“I regret that I have but one life to lose for my country”), but also Benedict Arnold and Israel Putnam (“don’t fire until you see the whites of their eyes”), are Connecticut natives.
So is less-known (by me, anyway) Thomas Knowlton, head of the short-lived, intelligence-gathering Knowlton’s Rangers.
And then there’s this complete list of Connecticut Revolutionary War Units, complete with links to which battles each fought in.
