Primaries

So, after New Hampshire, the next Democratic primary is here in Arizona.

I suppose it shouldn’t come as a surprise that only registered Democrats can vote in this election, but it did. See, for all state and lower elections in Arizona, those who are registered as independents–who don’t have any party affiliation–choose which party’s primary ballot they wish to vote on at the polling place. Apparently not so for the presidential primary, which must be administered differently. Didn’t realize this until today.

I don’t know whether I would have changed my affiliation (or lack thereof) had I known. I don’t think so–the reasons I decided to register as an independent the last time we moved still hold, for all that barring something unforeseen, I’ll be voting for whoever winds up on the Democratic presidential ticket.
