Kirkus Reviews had nice things to say about Secret of the Three Treasures: "Simner deftly tucks in clues, subplots and enough tongue-in-cheek humor to keep the suspense from turning scary. Her focused determination overriding all obstacles and mishaps, Tiernay makes an appealing protagonist... Fine fare for recent Cam Jansen and Encyclopedia Brown graduates." Tiernay West, Professional Adventurer (working title) will be published by Holiday House.

The short version is that this is a middle grade novel about a kid who wants to live a life of high adventure, isn't willing to wait until she grows up to do so, and isn't about to let the fact that she's stuck with an otherwise ordinary suburban life get in her way.

In May, I read and signed stories at the local Barnes & Noble, along with fellow Tucson writers Catherine Wells, Judith Tarr, Kate Daniel, and Dennis McKiernan.

I've also started leading a Girl Scout troop, which has been both challenging and a lot of fun.

It's now monsoon season here, and we've had some spectacular gully-washing thunderstorms.

"Steel Penny" received an honorable mention in Gardner Dozois' Year's Best Science Fiction.

"Raising Jenny" continues to get good reviews. Here's a review in Tangent Online.

I spent a lovely long weekend with a couple of other writers at the Tucson Bed and Breakfast The Congenial Quail, where we wrote and held an informal retreat. I thoroughly recommend this sort of in-town getaway to anyone who needs to reenergize their writing!

It's spring in the desert! We haven't had much rain, so the wildflowers aren't as spectacular as last year, but I can smell blooming plants everywhere, and the chatter of bird song has grown noticeably louder.

My newest short story, "Raising Jenny," is now out in Constance Ash's Not of Woman Born, an adult science fiction anthology. The SFSite had some nice things to say about the story.

I also discovered that "Steel Penny" was reviewed in Tangent Online.

I recently signed books at Harelson and Copper Creek Elementary Schools.

Not much to report here. I'm working on a couple of fiction projects and continuing to take on web design and business writing clients, too.

Last night I was a guest at Roadrunner Elementary School's Author Night.

It's winter here in the Sonoran Desert, and while the weather's been properly chilly, we haven't had enough rain yet. Hopefully we'll get a few more inches before spring!
